This collection contains the records of the First Congregational Church of Holden, 1742-1959. There is a volume of early church records, 1742-1822, that includes the covenant of 1742 and a list of new members to 1818, church meetings, a list of baptisms, and a list of admissions and dismissions. There are several additional volumes of church and clerk's records, Church Committee and Church Council records, Prudential Committee records, and several volumes containing the records of the Ladies Benevolent Society and the Young People's Society of Christian Endeavor. The folders include clerk's records, 1958-1959, and miscellaneous papers concerning various church committees, building renovations, and the 175th anniversary of the church, 1917.

The First Congregational Church of Holden, Mass., was founded in 1742 with the Rev. Joseph Davis (1720-1799) settled as its first minister. In 1733 Davis was dismissed at his own request following various accusations of improper conduct, and the Rev. Joseph Avery (1751-1824) was settled in Holden, 1774-1824.
